Proposal:
Throwing things away is a waste of resources and energy. If we recycle, it can save money and many other things. Many parts of the world have already been damaged by min ing and quarrying, which destroy the natural environment and wildlife and cause environmental and health problems for people. A majority of resources that we use in manufacturing products will eventually run out.
Recycling the paper box of Boxed Water Is Better can help, clients can turn it into a flower vase by “simply 4 steps”, with tools that can be found around the house. Just flatten the box, score the lines that are printed inside the box, fold it, and glue it. This can be done in just 10 minutes. Not all clients buy a box of water every day; people like me only buy a box of water in a month. If the box was collectable, it will get throw away. So what is more usable in daily but you don’t have to buy it often? With the water box, you can simply make a vase whenever you need it. The Korean artist and designer has combined a few simple elements to create elegant DIY hanging plant pots. The main element is paper. Many crafty folks make their own vase, it’s cheaper and cool. The DIY vase can be made for about $30 less than the commercial version.

Proposal

I wish to make a series of three kitchenware items (a place mat, napkin ring and coaster) that are both functional and intriguing using the Boxed Water is Better carton. I intend to develop this idea by using a weaving technique and drawing inspiration from existing designer and eco-friendly wares, like the ones featured in Terracycle. My audience is anyone who is environmentally conscious and open-minded enough to accept using recycled materials to enjoy their meals. They will use these items the same way traditional place mats, napkin rings, coasters are used. My intent is not to innovate the ways these items are used, only the materials used to make them.

Upcycling is reusing materials in a new way that is just as useful as their old way. It’s important because our current wasteful attitude is harmful to the environment and to our own physical and mental wellbeing. Upcycling provides us with an opportunity to create new worth with our old items; which means our landfills stop expanding which means our bodies and minds are less polluted.

PROPOSAL

The idea I developed is a group of shapes that interlock with each other to create different objects; like lamps, curtains and other types of house decorations.
I was inspired by puzzle lamps; they are made by interlocked shapes to create a lamp.
The shapes would be printed in the inside of the box. This would make it easier for people to build the decorations.

The audience for this product is interior designers, anyone who enjoys building things, or people who are interested in decorating their homes.
The purpose of this idea is to have fun while upcycling. Building objects with these shapes can be really fun, and at the end people can decorate their homes with what they created.

DON'T TOSS OUT THAT EMPTY BOXED WATER CARTON, re-use or up-cycle it. Constructing a bow tie from the empty box is meant to be a statement about environmental friendliness and the fact that we care about this planet. We need to be more resourceful with what otherwise would become trash. Annually Boxed Water Is better donates 10% of their profits to the World Water Relief Foundations. As the company grows they will take on more foundations and they will need more supporters. To bring these supporters together Boxed Water Is Better will hold a charitable event.

The event, Boxed Water Is Better Bow Tie Annual Benefit Event will have donors (large contributors), supporters (contribute in various ways), guest and the Box Water leaders. The donors and supporters can easily be distinguished at the event. Donors will be wearing the Platinum Edition of the bow tie (original reversed) and the supporters will be wearing the original edition with the text facing outwards. This distinguishment amongst the guest will motivate those with out to take action so that they can also be part of this special event and stand out among the rest. The bow tie creates unity and the feeling of being part of some thing bigger than themselves. What a fun way for Boxed Water Is Better to up-cycle their own product.

Proposal:

This utility case is designed to be hung up and be used as a container for tools. It’s very simple to make, and more likely than not, one can make as many as one wants, hang them up, and they still won’t get in the way! Examples of things that could be contained: office supplies, school supplies, toothbrush, cooking utensils, small tools (such as screws or gears). Even children can make use of the instructions!
All that is needed is a knife (or something to cut with, hole puncher, and something to hang them up with: tacks, nails, wall hangers. I propose this idea. Why make these? Upcy- cling is good for the environment, and making nice things out of used materials is a nice, added, bonus!

Project Proposal:
Water is known to be one of the most resourceful elements in the world. It surrounds us everywhere. We drink it, cleanse with it, and incorporate it into our daily lifestyles. In today’s global environment, purified water is sacred and discovering methods to save and reuse is necessary. One way is to take the boxed water carton and transform it into a plant waterer. This concept was inspired by my mother who wanted me to constantly water her plants. I constructed an environmental system of reusing water. The carton’s bottom is cut off and hung above outdoor plants. When it rains, the carton collects rain water. When the plant requires water, unscrew the cap, poke holes on the inner plastic piece, and the water will flow out of the carton to nourish the plant. This up cycled product accommodates anyone. This system of watering plants will give owners the ability to reuse natural rain water instead of wasting other various household forms of water. I looked at examples of different eco friendly watering cans made out of water bottles. These upcycling versions inspired me to make my Eco-Friendly Plant Waterer.

This past weekend I made a waterproof version of my plant waterer using an existing milk carton. I created a plastic insert over the opening of the bottle and poked holes into it. I hung it over a plant and took photos of it. Here are some of the shots I took. The first photo is the final photo I will be submitting. Shots of the final pieces from today's class will be up soon!

My idea has developed since my last blog update - I am now using the weaving technique I mentioned previously to make a series of kitchenwares. This includes a place mat, coaster and napkin ring.

I tried many different options while trying to make the bow tie. In conclusion I found that the paper lined with a silver back side suited the carton best, but not my folding needs. It was a challenge but eventually I came up with the right equation to make the silver backed paper and the bow tie fold without to much trouble.
This is process from last week and just scanned in. What I have here are various ideas and variations for office supplies made out of the boxed water carton, along with potential templates.

After further development, I settled for the “utility  case”. Which is designed to be a container that can be hung up on the walls for placing things in (tooth brush, pencils, cards, rulers, whatnot...).  Furthermore, I made some small sketches for the shape of the item. All of the items are useful, but the nice thing about this one is that you can have multiple ones around the house, in every room, and they can still be useful.

I am still using the idea of shapes that connect with each other, but I am not focusing on lamp shades only.

This three pictures show how people can create different types of decoration or lamp shades

the last two pictures show the curtain idea and the shape I am going to use

My idea was to create a series of shapes that attach to each other and people can create different things depending on the way they connect the shapes. I was thinking people can create different types of lamp shades with them, like puzzle lamps.

I would like to present to you the first ever LXAE Bow Tie V.1. At first I was having trouble deciding what to do and was making things way to complicated. After exchanging ideas with a teammate, a much simpler bow tie was created. This simple bow tie has provided a solid foundation to start with. The next step is will be exploring ways to attach the bow tie to the shirt.

I decided to continue with my first idea, a reusable plant waterer. Here are some process shots from today's class. The first photo shows what my final will end up looking like. And the other two photos show the folding method I chose to hang the carton with string.

Last Class I brought three ideas to the group.

My first idea was to create a water planter. The box would be cut in half. The top part has holes poked on each side to have it hang over the plant. The cap has an inner piece of plastic where you would poke holes in it. The outer cap would screw on. When it would rain, the rain water would collect in the piece hanging over the plant. The next day when the rain is collected, you unscrew the outer cap and the water will flow through the plastic holes and water the plant. The bottom half will be used to collect rain water so you will have a surplus of water.
My second Idea was to construct clutches from the templates.
My third idea was to cut mini strips of the flattened box, braid it, and create bracelets.

- Right now my thoughts are more gearing towards the first and second ideas.
My ideas for today weren't very developed, they included a small envelope with a card/stationary, a paper airplane (or anything involving paperfolding) and some basic weaving. Of the three ideas I presented, the weaving seemed to be the strongest, so I plan on going ahead and making different things out of weaved bristol strips.

When we talked a little more about the fact that the material being waterproof, I thought it might be fun to make a rubber duckie.
